Many marketer has asked “what is duplicate content”, how google penalize it. From my own experience, there is no such thing as duplicate content penalty! But if your site is building purely on RSS feeds and content from other sites, such as article directories, high chances are your page won’t show at all…!

Google is trying to provide the best user experience when providing result, they have no intention to penalize anyone except those who try to manipulate the search result. We as marketer must provide added value (information) to the user for every content we post on our sites, and as long as it benefit the visitor, Google will continue to send you visitor.

Think about it, the whole Internet is about information and distribution of information, if Google penalize duplicate content, CNN, Bloomberg, BBC and other news network will go offline, de-list from Google, right?

So what is the truth about duplicate content? Let’s put it this way, you post an article from article directory because you know that article is good for your visitor, but you can expect this article page to be filtered by Google, because article directory will normally outrank you! Unless you have lots of backlinks (Haven’t tested yet), I don’t think your page would ever show.

In some raw cases, like long tail keyword, your page will still be listed. That is why those RSS sites still get traffic, but not the original targeted traffic from the article, but many be mix of few articles in the same page that result in some long tail keyword to show up!

That is why feeder site still works, and with large amount of articles, it still gives you some good traffic, but don’t expect it to be targeted and it may take some time to build up the traffic.

For article marketer, you can spin your articles for better result, increase your search engine list chances, but I always shoot out the article to all directories without spinning it, I just need other article directories to help me distribute my article. Don’t expect multiple list in the search engine, but you still get other source of traffic back to your site.

Many marketer recommend articlemarketer.com to distribute the article, I try to send 2 articles with their service, and the response time for them to tell me my article got problem is just taking too long. You can find more bad comments on warrior forum. However, if you have the patient to work with them, I believe it will be a good service, because Armand Morin and Jim Edwards seems to recommend them.

For me, I use Article Post Robot (Build in with spinner software, I just don’t use them…), one time cost and you can send out to hundreds of article directories automatically. To avoid Google think you are spamming them, do not post any links from your site to any article directory that host your article, or search engine will know you are trying to push the ranking of the page!

Instead, use online bookmarking to build backlink to your article.
