This is a great tool to allow your blog readers to share your post. First, goto their website, download the plugin, install and activate it, then add the script in your theme.

When downloading the button, select wordpress plugin, add it to your plugin directory. After you activated the plugin, go back to the site and select “Wordpress Engine Snippet”, it takes me almost half an hour to to find this code to activate the button! They should add more detail description… By the way, you need to sign up for a special key.

Today is a sad day for John Reese! After trying to make BlogRush works for a year, today it is finally the shutdown…

BlogRush is an idea to exchange related traffic between blogs, to finally increase the blog traffic! This is a brilliant idea, but very hard to achieve. There are some technical issues remains:

1. How to record each site’s credits
2. How to consume those credits
3. How to increase the click-through rate of BlogRush Widget

What I think why BlogRush failed is due to “people”. Everyone wants traffic, but they don’t want to give up their own traffic! There is not a mechanism to encourage click-through, and this is not only the technical problem, but also the people problem!

I think may be BlogRush combine with advertisement might actually work. Here’s the reason:

1. If we can purchase the traffic from other related blogs, when click-through pay the other party or reward them with credit, this will encourage the blogger to optimize the widget for click-through.
2. Any BlogRush members can “cash out” their credit or purchase more credit for more traffic.
3. The most difficult part – how to actually track false clicks and manufactured clicks?

I think BlogRush needs more R&D and testing before this system can actually work…with the limited budget, BlogRush can’t possibly be successful.

Having said that, we must give John Reese the praise of his courage to try this project! We hope to see more success from John in the future!

WordPress will automatically ping the ping services for new content on your blog, this is good; Unfortunately, WordPress seems to ping the services everytime a post is re-save. You don’t want to ping the services everytime you make any changes, they might ban you from using their services! This plugin will control and manage your ping.

You can easily control how many times you allow WordPress to ping for you within a time frame! And it keeps a log of ping result that let you maintain your ping list easily from time to time. I will attach my favorite ping list here:

You should enable the full RSS feeds and promote it with Feedburner. Using Feedburner will help you distribute your RSS and keeping track your subscriber details. I use Google reader to read over 50 blogs’ feeds, and I hate summary feeds, although sometime I will still subscribe to it, but most of the time, I will skip that blog. RSS feeds is just like using email to build relationship with your reader. I know by providing feeds will decrease the number of visitors to my blog at start, but in long run, they will become my loyal readers!

Submit your RSS to RSS Directories, when other feeder sites distribute your web content, you will get a back link from them, and if you know someone is ripping off your content, you just need to add a link back to your website!

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #05 – Join the community.

A successful blogger will always participate on related forums and blog communities, interact and build relationship with other bloggers. Comment and blog about other blogger’s blog will help you build good relationship with other bloggers, and when you have good content on your post, they will link to it just like what you did.

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #06 – Comment on other blogs.

You should find all blogs related to your niche, use Google reader to subscribe to their feeds and check what’s new everyday. Participate in the discussion of every post if possible, contribute your ideas and may be blog a ping back post to the topic that you like! You can easily increase blog traffic with comment, and build back links naturally.

Leaving comments not only build your reputation, bring in some traffic and get more back links, but the most important part is to build a solid and good relationship with the blog owner, if you do it consistently, they will start to notice you and eventually link to you when you have some great content!

Social Bookmarking sites like Stumbleupon and Digg have a lot of users and traffic, don’t abuse them by bookmarking every single post! That is not the way to share your “love” for the content… When you bookmark only your “best” post, you gain more respect from the community members, and they are more willing to help you – Only if you have good content.

If your page when to the top of those high traffic bookmarking sites, you can expect a big chunk of traffic flooding your site. Consistently writes powerful tips and information once every 2 weeks and submit them to the bookmarking sites, practice and practice, eventually you know what the community likes, and you can get them to vote for you.

Submit your blog to Technorati, Blogcatalog, MyBlogLog and other directories to gain more exposure, join their discussion of the community. Some blog directory has very strict rules, only qualify blog will be accepted, but once accepted you will open up a window to their traffic.

Just to remind you, quality content is the key to a successful blog, put your time and effort into creating blog post. At start when you have limited traffic, just create 20 quality posts and you can start focus on your traffic campaign, post 2 ~ 3 times every week at to maintain a good readership, concentrate your effort on getting more traffic to your site. When your site have 500 ~ 1,000 visitors per day, you should focus on content creation! Write a GOOD post everyday and your traffic will be building up naturally, even without any traffic campaign!

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #09 – Do a pod cast every week.

You can start a weekly pod cast like Andrew Wee, Interview some of the top blogger or people in your market, distribute your pod cast to the pod cast directories. You can also use BlogTalkRadio to host your own radio show, go live while recording it and post it to your readers (or listener in this case).

I would suggest no more than 10 article directories every day! The 3rd way to use the article marketing – Tap into search engine traffic. You use the article directory page rank power to give advantages to your article in search engine ranking. Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #13 – Viral marketing.

Create 2 interesting e-books, put your passion and love into creating this product, do it like a paid product and give your readers the absolute love of your book that they can’t find it anywhere on the Internet! Well, if you can do that, I am sure your e-book will be all over the worldwide web!

Ask your reader to opt-in to your list and send them your first e-books. Use the AIDA formula to make your reader fall in love with your e-book and remember **DO NOT** close your door at the last page of your e-book, make them so desired and ask to send them to a tell-a-friend page and ask them to help you spread the first e-book! After they send an email to their friends, you send your reader the second e-book!

There is no limit to this method, the key is to encourage your readers to spread your viral product – E-Book, E-Courses, Audio Courses, Interviews or Software. In your e-book, you must have some links back to your site.

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #14 – Join current events.

Blog anything about most current events that related to your niche, search engine love current events, and they will give more weight to them for a short period. If you can tap into the events, you will get more back links and help you generate more long term visitors.

People love lists, so just create one and give it to them! List of top 10 Pro Bloggers, List of Top 20 Sexiest Bloggers, Top 20 Online millionaire entrepreneur Under age 25… Anything can be a link bait page as long as it provides interesting resources. From SEO stand point, link out is not neccessary a bad thing as long as it add values to the post.

Please don’t over do the link bait, you should post a link bait page for the maximum of 1 per month, or at least every 30 posts. Too much link bait will degrade your blog value and doesn’t do anyone any good.

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #16 – Promote your brand.

Professional blogger such as Problogger.net, Shoemoney.com, JohnChow.com, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com, and many more have successfully promoted their brand using logo, T-shirt, photo, video, pod cast and many methods to build their name, they are well known between bloggers.

Define your blog character and mission at start, try towards promoting with such a characteristic and eventually promote all products with it!

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #17 – Held a contest.

Encourage your readers to join the contest of post comment, write articles, create video commercial for your blog or anything that contribute to your blog. As your network and community grow, you can easily find sponsor for your contest!

Contest is not recommended for new blog, but if you plan it properly, you might get other bloggers to promote your site by sponsoring their contest!

Increase Blog Traffic Strategy #18 – The Secret strategy that most bloggers failed.

This is the last and the most important thing in building your blog traffic, if you do it right, it will not only increase blog traffic , your whole blogging business will depend on it.

Consistency.

Without consistent posting to your blog , you blog will die! Consistency is the key to all businesses, I purposely put it last to remind you – Do it consistently!

Well, I love Google, but I have to agree with Jeremy Schoemaker that blogger should have a mindset of “Screw Google”! Think about it, successful bloggers are “people focused”, they do not write for Google, meaning they do not write for “People who user Google to find a solution”, they all had built a strong community of readers that like them, they would rather give what “existing” readers want than try to please “future” readers!

Successful Blog will always interact with people and use people to spread their message viral, bringing even more people! That’s why they are highly focused on their readers.

However, I wonder if there is a successful blog that write for people and Google? Or we all should absolutely “Screw Google”…?
