If you have discovered the potential of the internet to help you make extra money or even replace your income from your day job, then you probably know that one of the easiest ways to get started making money on the internet is to market affiliate products. This offers you several advantages over other types of internet business models. You don’t have to make your own products. You don’t have to worry about shipping or electronically delivering the products to customers. You don’t have to deal with returns.

Clearly, you cannot promote every single affiliate product available on the internet today. Doing so would be counterproductive, because you would spread yourself very thin trying to capitalize on endless marketing angles. Instead, you should concentrate on promoting only a handful of affiliate products. This gives you the ability to create an effective marketing strategy for each product.

So out of the thousands of affiliate products available through internet based companies around the world, how do you pick the affiliate products that are right for you? Well, first, you should think about your own interests. What things are you passionate about? If it’s cooking, for example, then you will be a lot more focused on your business, and find it quite a bit easier to find time to promote your business, if you focus on selling tangible or informational products related to cooking. You simply must have a passion for your affiliate products if you expect to be able to put in the hours necessary to build a successful business.

Next, you should look for products that give you the chance to earn long term revenue from referring each client. Look at the terms of each affiliate program to see if you will be able to earn commissions on repeat or subscription sales. Products that are sold on a subscription basis, such as access to a members only website for a recurring monthly fee, give you the chance to be paid over and over again for your efforts. As long as a client continues his or her subscription, you will continue receiving commissions for your referral of that client. Over time, this will allow you to build a substantial income without increasing the amount of work that you put into promoting your affiliate products.

Finally, you should look for affiliate products that you can be compensated for long after the initial referral. Some affiliate programs place cookies on visitors’ hard drives that contain your unique affiliate ID, so if a visitor comes back to the sales page 30 or even 60 days after your referral, you will still be credited for the sale. This is important, because many of your referred clients will not purchase a product the first time they visit a sales page.

Considering these factors will help you build a profitable business selling affiliate products with the least amount of work. Use these tips when selecting your affiliate products, and you will place yourself far ahead of the majority of people out there trying to make money on the internet.
